Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty also known as Lady Liberty is one of the top attractions of New York City. One can’t imagine a tour to New York without making a trip to Statue of Liberty. Statue of Liberty is arguably one of the most famous and beloved of American monuments. A short boat trip from Manhattan brings you to the Statue of Liberty.
Statue of Liberty
This statue was a gift from the people of France. The French leadership felt that any monument celebrating American freedom should be a joint project for both the French and American people. France provided the statue and America provided the pedestal and site. The statue designed by Frederic Bartholdi and began construction in the early 1870's. The statue was dedicated on October 28th, 1886 at Bedloe Island in New York harbor. In 1956 Congress officially changed the name of Bedloe Island to Liberty Island.

There is also an excellent museum on the grounds where you can learn more about this monument and also get to see the original torch that the statue carried before it was replaced. You can get Liberty tickets from many places. However, there is only one official location for Statue of Liberty tickets and that is at Statue Cruises. This is the official ticketing center for visits to both the Ellis Island Immigration Museum and the Statue of Liberty.
